My work has appeared in The New York Times, Salon, The Village Voice, Los Angeles magazine, San Antonio Magazine,, Pacific Standard, The Independent on Sunday (London), Giant Robot, AsianWeek, Orion, Cincinnati, International Documentary, The Believer, and the Los Angeles Times. I have taught courses in undergraduate English at UCLA, led citizenship classes in Oakland’s Chinatown, and tutored students in English as a Second Language. For ten years, I was a writer, editor, and book reviewer at Los Angeles magazine. 

I attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (B.A., English), the University of California at Berkeley (M.A., English), and the United States Armed Forces School of Music (marine bandsman/saxophone, with a minor in clarinet).  

I live in Los Angeles with my wife, Hyunu Lee, and my son, Ezekiel.
